Mayor, business leaders & firefighters to urge legislative conference committee to pass Indy Works
INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Bart Peterson, joined by business leaders, firefighters and other community leaders, will urge a legislative conference committee to pass Indianapolis Works, the plan to reform local government and save Marion County taxpayers $35 million every year.
The conference committee will be meeting to discuss Senate Bill 307, which was passed by both the Indiana House of Representatives and Senate, but does not contain Indianapolis Works' cost-saving, government reform measures.
The members of the committee - Rep. William Crawford, Rep. Robert Behning and Sen. Mike Young, all of Indianapolis, and Sen. Frank Mrvan of Hammond - have the opportunity to amend SB 307's language to include Indianapolis Works.
WHEN: Tomorrow - Tuesday, April 26; 10 a.m.
WHERE: Indiana Statehouse, Room 431
One component of Indianapolis Works - the consolidation of the city and county budget development - also is alive in House Bill 1097, which was passed by both the House and Senate.
HB 1097, SB 307 or other bills in conference committee could be amended to include Indianapolis Works before the end of the legislative session Friday.
