Peterson to deliver major speech on Indy Works with five days left in legislative session
INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Bart Peterson today will deliver his last major policy speech on Indianapolis Works, the government reform package that saves taxpayers $35 million a year, before the end of the legislative session this Friday.
With less than one week to go, Mayor Peterson has been using every day to press the Indiana General Assembly to use the final days of the legislative session to help Indianapolis and Marion County save taxpayers $35 million a year.
Mayor Peterson will be joined by students from local colleges and universities, as well as Butler University faculty and personnel.
WHEN: TODAY - Monday, April 25 1:30 p.m.
WHERE: Butler University Atherton Union, Reilly Room 740 W. Hampton Drive
When the plan was announced in August, Peterson warned that Indianapolis was experiencing what other cities across the country, such as Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and others, are facing right now: local government shortfalls that are increasing at a staggering rate.
Without Indianapolis Works, the city and county would be forced to lay off police officers, Sheriff's deputies and firefighters, close parks, cut neighborhood services and cut back on other important services.
