Congresswoman Carson, Deputy Mayor Henegar, IRS encourage working families to claim earned income tax credit
Tax preparation "Super Site" open Saturday
INDIANAPOLIS - Congresswoman Julia Carson and Deputy Mayor Jane Henegar will be joined by Internal Revenue Service representatives to encourage working families earning up to $35,458 per year to apply for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and to take advantage of free tax preparation and financial counseling.
WHEN: Saturday, February 5 10 a.m.
WHERE: Indianapolis Business College 550 East Washington St.
The EITC is available to low-to-moderate-income taxpayers. In Indianapolis, approximately $135.4 million was refunded to 76,000 EITC claimants last year. An estimated 15,000 families failed to claim the EITC in 2003, which would have further boosted the local economy.
The Indianapolis Asset Building Campaign, a coalition of Mayor Peterson, Congresswoman Carson, the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee, the IRS, Annie E. Casey Foundation, John H. Boner Community Center, and other community partners, is sponsoring the free tax preparation sites this tax season.
