Mayor to testify on Indianapolis Works bill
INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Bart Peterson will testify before an Indiana House of Representatives committee on legislation that would implement Indianapolis Works, the Mayor's plan to save local government $35 million each year.
House Bill 1435, authored by Rep. William Crawford and Rep. Phil Hinkle, both of Indianapolis, will be discussed today before the Local Government Committee. The bill would consolidate township fire departments into IFD, merge the Indianapolis Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff's Department, streamline township government, and improve city and county budget efficiency and accountability. Today's discussion will focus on merging the fire departments and streamlining poor relief services.
