New community policing initiatives to combat crimes in the Latino community to be announced Monday
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Police Department and the Mayor's Commission on Latino Affairs will unveil a media outreach campaign and new initiatives to combat crime in the Latino community.
WHEN: Monday, February 28 9:15 a.m.
WHERE: Indianapolis Police Department, Chief's Office City County Building East, 50 North Alabama Street
The initiatives grew out of concerns about crime expressed to city officials by leaders in the Latino community. Initiatives include a Spanish language campaign encouraging Latinos to report crime by calling a designated line for Spanish speakers. IPD is also announcing the appointment of two new Latino officers, one who will serve as a detective and the other as an outreach coordinator.
