Statement from Mayor Peterson
INDIANAPOLIS - "Unfortunately, we have once again been reminded of the dangers that our law enforcement officers face everyday. These brave men and women, who have volunteered to protect our city from harm, are often placed in harms way while keeping us safe. A simple ‘thank you’ for their service to our community does not even begin to express our gratitude.
"One of these brave officers, Deputy Gary Schuller, today responded to a bank robbery on the Northeast side of Indianapolis. While chasing the suspects, Deputy Schuller was shot in the thigh. Another brave officer, Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Edwards, also was wounded during a domestic disturbance early this morning.
"I know I speak for all the people of Indianapolis in extending my thoughts and prayers to Deputy Schuller and Deputy Edwards, their families and the Marion and Johnson County Sheriff’s Departments during this difficult time, and I hope both deputies have a fast and complete recovery."
