Mayor Peterson and Dr. White will dedicate and work out at the Emma Donnan
Middle School fitness trail as part of the mayor’s monthly FitCity Challenge
INDIANAPOLIS - On Wednesday, Mayor Bart Peterson and Dr. Eugene White, IPS superintendent, will hit the new fitness trail with students at Emma Donnan Middle School as part of the mayor’s on-going commitment to the FitCity campaign, a community-wide childhood obesity campaign.
Funded by the Carol E. White Physical Education Progress Grant, the quarter-mile-long trail at Donnan gives students in physical education classes opportunities to climb ladders, walk a balance beam, do push-ups and pull-ups and much more. The trail is just one of the new ways this southside school is bringing the importance of health, wellness and physical fitness to the attention of its students.
In August, Mayor Peterson issued a 12-month fitness challenge to Hoosiers to get up and get moving - a challenge that he committed to himself. Monthly FitCity Challenges have taken the mayor to a YMCA after-school program, an intergenerational walk through Martin Luther King Park, to George Washington Community School and now to Emma Donnan Middle School.
WHAT: FitCity Fitness Challenge and Fitness Trail Dedication
WHEN: 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30
WHERE: Emma Donnan Middle School, 1202 E. Troy Ave.
