Mayor to speak at Lights On Afterschool and Red Ribbon rally
INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Bart Peterson will join representatives of the Afterschool Coalition of Indianapolis, Indy Parks and Recreation and the United We Stand Coalition at the Lights on Afterschool and Red Ribbon Rally to celebrate afterschool programs.
WHEN: Thursday, October 13 9:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. (Mayor will speak from 12:30 - 12:45 p.m.)
WHERE: RCA Dome
This is the sixth anniversary of the national Lights on Afterschool celebration. Thousands of youth, parents, school officials, government leaders, and representatives of youth-serving agencies have been invited to help rally support for safe afterschool programs. This year’s event is being combined with the Red Ribbon Rally, which is a national anti-drug campaign aimed at helping youth remain drug-free. A statewide collaboration of youth-serving agencies will bring more than 10,000 students from across Indiana to honor and celebrate their commitment to making positive lifestyle choices. The theme for this year’s event is "HEAR US INDIANA."
The day’s agenda includes: educational workshops provided by the Marion County Health Department, 4H, and the St. Florian Center; team building games provided by Indy Parks and the Greater Indianapolis YMCA-Urban Mission Branch; a resource fair with a special exhibit from Walt Disney Studios; and entertainment provided by youth performers from throughout the state.
