Peterson unveils paintings in Mayor’s Office

INDIANAPOLIS - Mayor Bart Peterson unveiled the artwork of local artists Magdalena Segovia and Robert Eberle in his office in the City-County Building.

Segovia’s paintings concentrate on the human figure. Her boards are made carefully out of wood and linen and she creates high intensity color in her paint by using egg tempera in her oil and pigments. She maintains a very simple color palette in order to enhance the beauty and energy of her paintings. Her work appears in the reception area of the Mayor’s Office.

"I find that by presenting the viewer with something as familiar as the human form, the spectator opens easily to those feelings that have the power to evolve and elevate us in our every day life, and I try to convey that in my paintings," Segovia said.

With their expressive brush work and entrancing colors, Robert Eberle’s canvases evoke a poetic quality. His favorite subjects are tranquil Indiana landscapes, reflections on water, dramatic skies and pathways signifying his life’s journey with art. His work appears in the conference room of the Mayor’s Office.

"The destination I’m trying to reach in my work is a painting or image that draws the viewer into it, allowing him to participate in the creative process; a painting that the viewer loves at first sight and never tires of, one that discloses more each day," Eberle said.

Since 2001, the Mayor has used his office to display original artwork from local artists, courtesy of the Arts Council of Indianapolis. Artists’ works previously featured in the Mayor’s Office include photographers Debra & Darlene Delbecq, Susan Peters, William A. Rasdell and Greg Whitaker; visual artist Walter Knabe; painters William C.J., Becky Hall Fehsenfeld, Lois Main Templeton, Carl Graf, Wayman Adams, T.C. Steele and Jean Salzmann; illustrator Rob Harrell; and student artists Marissa Torres Reid, Phillip Bonner, Cedric Peterson and John White.

Since taking office in 2000, enhancing the arts and culture in Indianapolis is one of Mayor Peterson’s key priorities.
