Community Education
To encourage Indianapolis' citizens to join the green bandwagon and integrate environmentally friendly practices in their own lifestyles, the City uses a variety of community education programs and outreach opportunities.
Many of the City's environmental education efforts are created and implemented by IndyParks and its experienced staff.
For example, in 2003, the Indianapolis Parks Foundation helped to secure a grant from the Nina Mason Pulliam Foundation to pay for a mobile environmental education program. The Hub Naturalist Program takes the environment into areas that may be under served in environmental education.
All programming—whether performed at one of Indy Park's five nature centers, or at a school or public event—follows the Environmental EdVentures curriculum. This curriculum was developed by IndyParks Naturalists to meet the Indiana State Science Standards (grade specific.) IndyParks also provides pre- and post-trip activities, so that learning doesn't stop once guests leave the nature center or the nature trailer.
