Charter Schools Board Members
William Shrewsberry, Jr. – Chairman. founder, Shrewsberry & Associates. He served as deputy mayor of Indianapolis from January, 2000 until June, 2001, when he left to form Shrewsberry & Associates, a minority-owned consulting firm. He previously led several agencies in Indiana state government, including the White River State Park, Department of Administration and the Minority Business Development Commission. Shrewsberry also spent 29 years with Indiana Bell and Ameritech. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in business management from Indiana University-Southeast and Indiana Wesleyan University, respectively.
Christopher Felts is a partner in Barnes & Thornburg LLP's business department and the governmental services and finance department. Prior to entering the legal profession, Felts enjoyed a career in public service, serving for one year in the office of Indiana Governor Evan Bayh and for seven years with the Indiana Deparment of Commerce. His final post in state government was as deputy director of the International Trade Division of the Indiana Department of Commerce. He is fluent in Spanish. Felts is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis. He earned is B.A. in political science and Spanish from DePauw University. He is former chairman of the board of directors of Father Thomas Scecina Memoral High School and serves on the Indianapolis Archdiocesan Education Commission.
Matt Hall is the manager, projects, and finance for BioCrossroads and works on project development, capital formation, and enterprise investment of BioCrossroads, its entities and initiatives. Hall has a strong background in the public sector banking, finance, and investing. He was previously vice president - investment banking, public sector finances for NatCity Investments, where he oversaw the daily operations of the regional office, structured financings, and was an underwriter on more than $525 million of bonds. At the Indianapolis Local Public Improvement Bond Bank, Hall served as project manager, working on economic and real estate development projects and advising several City of Indianapolis entities on municipal finance. A graduate of Indiana University with a B.A. in political science, Hall has also served on local community development boards.
Thomas Major, Jr. is the Founder and President of Major Impressions LLC, an Indianapolis, Indiana-based consulting and seminar production company that serves individuals and companies. Prior to founding Major Impressions LLC, Mr. Major practiced law in the Indianapolis office of the law firm of Baker & Daniels, where he provided regulatory and business counsel to a variety of corporate and small business clients for 6 1/2 years. Mr. Major's personal and professional interests include educational and skill-building initiatives of various types, including past work for civic clients on matters regarding charter school legislation. Mr. Major is a member and Associate Minister of the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Cheryl McLaughlin has been a member of the MSDLT Board of Education since 1994 where she served as president for three terms and on the Digital Age Literacy Advisory Committee, the Gifted and Talented Task Force, Strategic Planning Committee, and the Technology Committee. She has been active in the Indiana School Boards Association and has served as an executive committee member. She holds a B.S. in Education from Indiana State University and has earned post-graduate credit from Indiana University and Radcliffe College. McLaughlin is also a member of the board of the Lawrence Township School Foundation, Benjamin Harrison YMCA (where she currently serves as president), and the University of San Diego Parent Advisory Board. In 1992, she was honored as a Lawrence North High School Number One Parent. In 2002, she was YMCA Woman of the Year.
Kaaren Rodman, retired foreign language teacher, North Central High School. Mrs. Rodman, a life-long teacher, taught at Westlane Middle School and North Central in MSD Washington Township. Starting in 1965, she was the first African-American teacher in the Washington Township schools. She was active in the Washington Township Education Association and chaired its minority affairs committee. She is a graduate of Ball State University and studied at the University of Grenoble in France as a Fulbright Scholar. The parent of two Broad Ripple High School graduates, Rodman also holds a master's degree in French from the University of Illinois.
Dr. Jose Rosario, Ph.D., director of the Center for Urban and Multicultural Education and professor of education, Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis. A lifelong educator and researcher, he specializes in urban education, at risk students, multicultural education and curriculum and instruction. Dr. Rosario has also served as a professor and director of Urban Teacher Education at Indiana University-Northwest. He has held teaching and research positions at Northeastern Illinois University, the University of North Florida, the State University of New York at Geneseo and the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico. He earned a bachelor's and master's degree and a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
