AUTOMOBILES
All major car rental agencies rent cars with hand controls (for left- or right-handed use). Cars are available at most major U.S. cities with pick-up and drop-off varying from agency to agency. Advance notice (varying from twenty-four to seventy-two hours) is required. Car rental companies may be contacted through toll-free numbers or local offices, found in local telephone directories.
VANS
Accessible van rentals are available from a number of companies with locations across the United States and Puerto Rico. Most offer daily and weekly rates on a variety of wheelchair accessible, full-sized, and mini-vans. Advance notice is recommended. Contact company directly for current availability. The major U.S. carrier is Amtrak.
BUS
Bus carriers are willing to provide necessary assistance for those who request it in boarding and handling baggage. They generally require a written statement from a physician verifying the need for an attendant to travel with an individual who has a disability. Advance arrangements should be made by calling the departure terminal for special assistance and check-in at the terminal well in advance of scheduled departure time. Terminal accessibility varies from city to city. Call for additional information.
