Research Sites and Information
One of the original purposes of the Internet was to facilitate access to research. The following is a sample of the Internet's information and research sites in the criminal justice area:
Corrections: American Correctional Association - the web site of the ACA, a multi-disciplinary organization of professionals representing all facets of corrections and criminal justice. American Jail Association - the web site of AJA, a national, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting those who work in and operate the nation's jails. Corrections Connection - a weekly news source committed to improving the lives of corrections professionals and their families. Federal Bureau of Prisons - contains information on the Bureau as well as links to related sites. National Institute of Corrections - the web site of NIC, a small agency within the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Courts: American Judicature Society - the web site of AJS, a non-partisan organization with a national membership of judges, lawyers, and non-legally trained citizens interested in the administration of justice Courts.net - provides links to court-created sites at the trial level as well as sites maintained by state and federal appellate courts Federal Judiciary - maintained by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, this site serves as a clearinghouse for information from and about the Judicial Branch of the U.S. government National Association of Drug Court Professionals - the web site of the NADCP which is the principal organization of professionals involved in the development and implementation of treatment-oriented drug courts. National Center for State Courts - the web site for NCSC, an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the improvement of justice Pretrial Services Resource Center - an independent, non-profit clearinghouse for information on pretrial issues U.S. Evidence Law - a site sponsored by the Legal Information Institute at Cornell Law School -- dedicated to applied research on the use of digital technology in the distribution of legal information, the delivery of legal education, and the practice of law
Criminal Justice System: Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences - the web site of ACJS which is an international organization established in 1963 to foster professional and scholarly activities in the field of criminal justice. American Bar Association: Criminal Justice Section - a resource that seeks to serve as a comprehensive resource for individuals interested in the criminal justice system Bureau of Justice Assistance - a component of the U.S. Department of Justice - Office of Justice Programs, supporting innovative programs that strengthen the nation's criminal justice system Bureau of Justice Statistics - a service of the U.S. Department of Justice - Office of Justice Programs, providing statistics about crime and victims, criminal offenders, law enforcement, prosecution, courts and sentencing, and corrections. Florida State University School of Criminal Justice - a compilation of links to a wide range of criminal justice sites National Center on Institutions and Alternatives - the web site for NCIA which NCIA is a private, nonprofit agency providing training, technical assistance, research and direct services to criminal justice, social services, and mental health organizations and clients across the country National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics - sponsored by the Bureau of Justice Statistics and operated by SEARCH, The National Consortium for Justice Information and Statistics, the Clearinghouse provides on-line Internet access to a host of justice-related information resources, including impartial information on available software solutions and a comprehensive, interactive database of justice agency requests for proposals including: National Council on Crime and Delinquency - a site committed to developing and promoting criminal justice strategies that are fair, humane, and sound. National Criminal Justice Reference Service - a federally sponsored information clearinghouse for people around the country and the world involved with research, policy, and practice related to criminal and juvenile justice and drug control. Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics - a site that brings together data from more than 100 sources about all aspects of criminal justice in the United States. These data are displayed in over 600 tables Talk Justice - a site sponsored by the Justice Research Association geared specifically toward students of criminal justice
Indiana-Specific Sites: Indiana Code - a hypertext publication maintained by the Office of Code Revision, Indiana Legislative Services Agency Indianapolis-Marion County Municipal Code Law Enforcement Agencies in Marion County, Indiana - a site maintained by the Indianapolis Public Schools Police Social Assets and Vulnerabilities Indicators (SAVI) for Central Indiana - an interactive database and mapping web site developed and maintained by the POLIS Center in partnership with the United Way/Community Service Council
Juvenile Justice: ABA Juvenile Justice Center - the web site of the American Bar Association's Juvenile Justice Center which works to improve the functioning of the juvenile justice system Juvenile Justice - an online, bi-monthly magazine serving juvenile justice professionals in the United States Juvenile Justice Role Model Development Project - sponsored by Florida State University, the goal of the JJRMDP is to meet a critical shortage of trained professionals for programs that provide young people with strong, positive role models in their communities
