Injuries and property damage resulting from motor vehicle crashes present a major public health and safety problem. Members of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department work to improve traffic safety through the enforcement of traffic laws and ordinances and the investigation of vehicle crashes.

District officers as well as traffic specialists assigned to the Traffic Enforcement, Traffic Investigations, and Parking/Intersection Control Sections are responsible for traffic enforcement and investigation throughout the police service district.
