Purpose:

 

The Hispanic/Latino Advisory Council provides insights and advice for improving the Marion County Treasurer’s services to the Latino and Spanish-speaking communities.

Ricardo Parra

Julio G. Tierno

 

 

Recommendations and Actions:

 

Reach out to the Hispanic/Latino community by:

 

1)      Making Marion County Treasurer services more accessible to Spanish-speaking taxpayers.

 

·        Providing customer service in Spanish.

 

2)      Educating Latino/Hispanic taxpayers on available deductions, payment procedures and recognizing the signs of occasional unfair lending practices or unethical real estate agents.

 

·        Distributing information flyers within the Hispanic/Latino communities at festivals, fairs and other gatherings.

 

·        Providing Spanish-language press releases to Hispanic/Latino media outlets and community organizations.

 

3)      Advocating for Spanish-language help guides for such State forms as mortgage and homestead deductions.

 

·        Recommended to Governor Daniels to have forms and instructions available in Spanish.

 

·        Currently discussing the issue of Spanish-language forms with the State of Indiana Department of Local Government and Finance.
