The Juvenile Division is responsible for representation of any indigent juveniles charged with delinquency offenses. The Juvenile Division also represents indigent adults in Termination of Parental Rights (TPR) cases and Children In Need of Services (CHINS) cases.

The Juvenile Division handles over 4,000 delinquency cases a year. Generally, delinquency cases are those cases where a juvenile is alleged to have committed an act that would be a crime if commited by an adult, or they can be status offenses where a juvenile is alleged to have left home without reasonable cause or permission, committed truancy, habitually disobeyed reasonable and lawful commands of their parents, committed curfew violations or violated IC 7.1-5-8 (concerning minors and alcoholic beverages).

The CHINS section represents parents where a child's physical or mental condition is seriously impaired or seriously endangered as a result of the action (or omission) of the child's parent, gardian or custodian.

The public defenders assigned to the Juvenile Division spend a great deal of their time in court. However, you can reach them via telephone or e-mail. A list of the Juvenile Public Defenders including their phone numbers and court assignments is located to the right. You may contact the Juvenile Division Supervisor if you need to discuss your attorney assignment.
