The Arrestee Processing Center (APC) opened in August, 2003. It operates 365 days a year 24 hours a day.
The APC is responsible for processing all adults arrested in Marion County. If the new arrest is for a major felony offense (A, B and C felonies) they are processed at APC and then transferred to the Marion County Jail. The initial hearing is then scheduled into a major felony court. Out of state hold warrants and parole hold violation warrants are also processed at APC and then transferred to the Marion County Jail.
Court 11 which is located at the APC conducts all initial hearings and sets bond on D felony and misdemeanor cases. The cases are then transferred to the parent D felony or misdemeanor courts for additional hearings or trial. The APC public defender or paralegal at APC will conduct an initial interview with any indigent person assigned to the Public Defenders Office. The client’s file is then transferred to a D felony or misdemeanor public defender assigned to the parent court. Court 11 also conducts hearings on re-arrest and probation violation warrants for all D felony and misdemeanor cases which are reset in the parent court for additional hearings.
Over 50,000 individuals are processed by APC each year and approximately 40,000 have hearings in Court 11.
