The Arrestee Processing Center (APC) opened in August, 2003. It operates 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.
The APC is responsible for processing all adults arrested in Marion County. If the new arrest is for a major felony offense (A, B and C felonies), they are processed at the APC then transferred to the Marion County Jail. The initial hearing is then scheduled into a major felony court. Court 11, located at the APC, conducts all initial hearings and sets bond on D felony and misdemeanor cases. These cases are then transferred to the appropriate D felony or misdemeanor courts for additional hearings or trial. The APC Public Defender or Paralegal will conduct an initial interview with any indigent person assigned to the Public Defenders Office. The client's file is then transferred to a D Felony or Misdemeanor Public Defender. Court 11 also conducts hearings on re-arrrest and probation violation warrants for all D felony and misdemeanor cases which are reset in the appropriate court for additional hearings.
Over 50,000 individuals are processed by the APC each year and approximately 40,000 have hearings in Court 11.
