Ronald Covington

Marion Superior Criminal Court Judge Robert Altice sentenced Ronald Covington to life in prison without parole for the murders of three people and the attempted murder of a fourth.

Covington had pled guilty to killing his ex-girlfriend Maranda Wilson and her friends Frederic Harris, Sr. and Kevin Simmons, Jr, on June 1, 2002, at Wilson's apartment.  Covington kicked down the door of the apartment, barged in and began shooting.  A fourth victim, Jasmine West, survived the assault by pretending to be dead.

Wilson was the mother of Covington's two children.  The couple had had several problems before the shooting.  She had moved out into her own apartment.

Covington pled guilty to three counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of burglary.  The state dropped its request for the death penalty.
