Abraham Maya

Marion Superior Court Judge Robert Altice sentenced Abraham Maya to 75 years in prison for the murder of Leslie Dickerson.

Maya had pled guilty to murder and robbery in the April 27, 2003. stabbing death of Dickerson, the manager of the Boston Market located at 9961 East Washington Street.  Maya was a cook at the restaurant.

Angered that Dickerson had refused his sexual advances, Maya convinced the other restaurant employees to leave.  He pushed a surveillance camera out of the way and stabbed Dickerson 26 times all over her body.  Maya then placed Dickerson's body in a plastic bag and carried it to a dumpster in the back of the establishment, covering it with garbage.  He drove Dickerson's car to another location, then took some of her belongings home with him.

The 75-year sentence was the maximum allowed under a plea agreement.  In exchange for the guilty plea, the State agreed to drop a request for life without parole.  Judge Altice called the murder the most heinous and brutal he had ever seen.
