Making Your Own Child Sick

Marion Superior Court Judge Sheila Carlisle sentenced Tracie Fleck to six years in prison.  Fleck pled guilty to two counts of battery.  She admitted to injecting foreign bacteria into the intravenous tube of her 21-month-old daughter Kennedy while the girl was a patient at Riley Hospital for Children.  According to the probable cause affidavit, Fleck contaminated the tube to get attention for herself and her daughter.

When she is released from prison, Fleck must serve two years' probation.  She may have no contact with any children under the age of 18, including her own, and must undergo both mental health and substance abuse evaluation and treatment.
