Beating a Child to Death

LaTonya Edmonds is serving a 60-year prison sentence for her part in the beating death of her four-year-old daughter, Diamond.  A Marion Superior Criminal Court Judge found LaTonya Edmonds guilty of murder, battery and neglect of a dependant.  The girl died January 8, 2003.  She had been beaten with a switch and belts in the two days before her death.  The girl had been drinking out of other people's cups.  Evidence in court also showed that she had been shoved into a wall with such force that the dry wall broke.  Prosecutors said there were more than 130 marks on her body.  LaTonya's boyfriend, Derrick Wheeler, pled guilty to aggravated battery and neglect in the case and received a 17-year sentence.
