Teacher, Coach Sentenced for Sexual Misconduct

Marion Superior Court Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson sentenced Jon Ayres to 4 years in prison on his guilty pleas to sexual misconduct with a minor and criminal confinement.  In addition, Ayres will spend three years on sex offender probation, pay $8,500 in restitution, surrender his Indiana teacher's license and must register as a sex offender.

Ayres was a social studies teacher and coach at Guion Creek Middle School in Pike Township.  Ayres admitted to sexually touching a 15-year-old student and accosting another middle school student, then 13, in his classroom in 2001.

Judge Magnus-Stinson told Ayres that "You decided it was OK to pursue sexual relations with these girls.  This was not an incident.  It was a crime.  You betrayed your family and your profession."
