Mother Sentenced for Giving Crack to her Child

A judge sentenced Andrea Wilkey to 1 1/2 years in prison on her guilty plea to felony neglect of a dependent.

The 40-year-old former child-care worker admitting to helping her five-year-old son smoke crack cocaine in her home.  She was arrested after the boy told his grandmother what he had done.  The grandmother took the boy to St. Vincent Hospital for tests, which were positive for crack cocaine.  The boy is in protective custody.  There were no permanent injuries.
