Brizzi Files Charges Against Postal Worker & Girlfriend who Stole Holiday Gift Cards
Indianapolis – Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi filed charges late yesterday against a United States Postal worker and his live-in girlfriend for stealing gift cards sent through the mail during the holiday season and using them at local stores.
Jeremiah Jones and Denise Maxey each face eight counts of forgery (a class C felony) and ten counts of theft (a class D felony).
“The holidays are supposed to be a time of selfless giving, but instead, Jeremiah Jones and Denise Maxey used other people’s generosity as an opportunity to line their own pockets,” said Brizzi.
According to the probable cause affidavit Jones told police that he stole approximately 35 gift cards and gave them to his girlfriend Denise Maxey to redeem. A Special Agent with the United State Postal Service traced the gifts cards to the stores they were used and was able to watch video recordings of a woman matching the description of Denise Maxey using the cards.
If they are found guilty on all counts Jones and Maxey could face a total sentence of up to ten years in prison.
