Fatal Alcohol Crash Team

The Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) was created in 2002 to combat the growing problem of impaired drivers who either seriously injure or kill someone when they make the decision to drink and drive.

Since the team's inception, it has investigated more than 54 crashes in Marion County.  To date, the team has never lost a case in court or had evidence suppressed before a trial.

The concept of the FACT team is unique considering that its members represent most of the law enforcement departments in the Marion County area instead of being a part of one particular department.

There are currently five separate "teams" that are part of the overcall FACT team.  They are called out depending on the time of day a crash occurs.  Each team has one supervisor of at least Sergeant rank, a DUI officer who is also a drug recognition expert, an interviewer of Detective rank and a certified fatal crash reconstructionist.

A Team Coordinator oversees the operation of FACT.  An OVWI Prosecutor is also assigned and responds to all crashes to which FACT is called.
