ZClient is an application that resides on a mobile data terminal that is docked in an officer's patrol car or fire apparatus. ZClient displays run data and enables the user to access related incident information. In addition, ZClient sources sensitive data, such as warrants, that may be helpful when a stop is made or a suspect is in question.
MECA tested ZClient version five with the assistance of many law enforcement and fire customers. Throughout the testing period, MECA documented functionality concerns and issues that were identified by both customers and the Field Systems Support Group staff. Version five offers enhanced functionality and allow users to operate the application using minimized key strokes, thereby eliminating safety hazards for the officer. Version five also introduces a mapping feature not available in version four, which pinpoints run locations on the ZClient map with a marker. This feature works similarly to what one would experience when using an internet mapping service. On the ZClient map, the marker indicates where the user is being dispatched without any interaction from the user.
