Jail Visitation
Inmates of the Marion County Jail are allowed to have visits while being incarcerated at the jail or its satellite facilities, except when an inmate is restricted from doing so. Failure to adhere to the Visitation rules will result in the cancellation of a visit and possible suspension of the visitor or inmate from future visiting privileges. It is the inmate's responsibility to comply with all rules and to inform their visitors of these rules, so that a scheduled visit is successfully completed. Any questions should be directed to the Visitation Office at (317) 327-1554.
IMPORTANT: The Sheriff, the Jail Commander or their designated representative, may cancel any visit or delete from an inmate's visitor's list, any visitor who violates a jail rule, or any person who, in their opinion, poses a threat to the Jail security or to another inmate, visitor or staff member.
ALSO IMPORTANT: Visitors may not pass or receive anything from an inmate without prior authorization. Anyone caught bringing contraband into the Jail, shall have visitation privileges revoked and risk criminal prosecution. The following is the Indiana State statute concerning trafficking:
I.C. 35-44-3-9 Trafficking with an inmate.
A person who, without the prior authorization of the person in charge of a penal facility, knowingly or intentionally: delivers or carries into the penal facility with the intent to deliver, an article to an inmate of the facility; or carries, or receives with the intent to carry out of the penal facility, an article from an inmate of the facility; commits trafficking with an inmate, a class A misdemeanor. However, the offense is a class C felony if the article is a controlled substance or a deadly weapon.
In other words if you try to sneak something into the jail and attempt to pass it to an inmate or receive something from an inmate you are subject to immediate arrest. We use pat-down searches, metal detectors and randomly, drug-sniffing dogs to search for contraband before you are allowed inside.
