Jail Population Coordinator
The role of the Jail Population Coordinator (formerly known as the Jail Ombudsman) is to assist the Marion County Sheriff's Department (and other County criminal justice agencies) in monitoring the inmate populations of the Jail, Annex, Central Receiving, and Jail II. The Commissioners assigned to the Arrestee Processing Center (APC) authorize the release of inmates in an effort to control the jail population. Once the Commissioners approve the release of an inmate, it is the duty of the Coordinator to notify various parties in the system of the release conditions (e.g., reporting to the Conditional Release Office or Probation Department the morning following the release) and to keep records of all those released. The Coordinator distributes release summaries, known as Inmate Management Release reports (IMR), to various local officials on a daily and weekly basis.
In addition, the Coordinator serves as a liaison between the Justice Agency and various local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and related personnel to streamline administrative processes and/or facilitate system changes. The Coordinator and the Department of Corrections work in a collobrative effort on case management initiatives.
The Coordinator is housed within the APC and provides statistical information, such as booking and processing times, to those within the criminal justice system. The Coordinator also reviews the Court sessions conducted by F11 at the APC.
The Arrestee Processing Center (APC) Director works directly with the Coordinator on the Sober Up Station program that is part of the Mayor's Blueprint to End Homelessness, and the Drug Free Marion County grant which focuses on ending the cycle of chemical dependencies.
