A letter from the CIO ...
Over the past year, we have focused on improving our results in areas that we call the "Four Cs": Customers, Cost, Capacity and Cutting Edge Technology. We view all of our work in terms of the ability to improve the business results of our customers, lower costs, increase our capacity, and identify cutting edge technologies as they become available.
Customers: One of our first initiatives has been to develop a customer-oriented approach to IT. By creating our business relationship management team and project management office, we are building skills to better understand our customers' business. This past year we have fully staffed our Business Relations unit dedicated to supporting our customers. Recently we made additional hires in the project management office that will get us closer to full staffing for the management
of enterprise-wide projects.
Cost: Information technology services and solutions are driven by the business needs of our customers. ISA strives to manage their internal costs and improve quality of performance by capturing efficiencies with enterprise technology investments.
Capacity: City-County government has experienced significant expansion over the past several years and the use of technology has allowed ISA to continue to support its customers without increasing the size of the department. Investments in technologies that helped ISA meet the demand of the enterprise included the migration to a Microsoft environment. We plan several new investments in 2007 to help us continue to meet the demand. By collaborating with our customers to plan, prioritize, design and implement technology improvements, we will be able to respond to their needs in a more effective manner. In addition, we have begun revisiting our standards and policies so that ISA can offer a more predictable, safe, and efficient work environment for customers allowing information to be exchanged more readily.
Cutting Edge Technology: New technologies have dramatically changed the way government is conducting business and has increased citizens' expectation of government. ISA has the opportunity to bring to the forefront new and emerging technologies that have brought value and cost saving practices to our customers, while improving the way citizens and businesses interact with City-County government.
My team and I are proud of our acheivements in 2006 and we look forward to even greater success in 2007.
