CRIME SCENE SPECIALIST

CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, provides crime scene specialist and investigation activities for law enforcement agencies throughout Marion County. Assists in developing/implementing crime scene scientific programs; confers with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to coordinate work activities at scenes and/or in the laboratory. Provides scientific analysis of acquired scene evidence to include testimony as an expert in court. Compiles statistical data and ensures that total work product meets all appropriate scientific and legal requirements.

FINGERPRINT TECHNICIAN/ FIREARMS TECHNICIAN

CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:

Individual is detailed to the Latent Print Unit and, under limited supervision, provides technical support to the Latent Print Section and Crime Scene Unit by processing physical evidence suspected of containing latent, patent, or plastic fingerprints in all current physical, chemical, or mechanical techniques, as well as photographing developed fingerprints for later comparison by certified latent print examiners.  

FORENSIC EVIDENCE TECHNICIAN

CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, provides morgue liaison specialist and investigation activities for law enforcement agencies throughout Marion County.  Assists the forensic pathologist at medicolegal autopsies in the collection of evidentiary material; initiates the legal "chain of custody"; photographs the autopsy; finger prints the body.  Assists in developing and/or implementing forensic and morgue liaison programs; confers with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to coordinate work activities at the morgue and/or in the laboratory.  Provides scientific analysis of acquired or assigned evidence, to include testimony as an expert in court.

FORENSIC SCIENTIST

CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, daily provides overall direction, management, and supervision to the forensic or crime scene elements of the Forensic Services Laboratory. Provides work direction, training and supervision to subordinates, develops/implements scientific programs; confers with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to coordinate work activities. Provides scientific analysis of criminal evidence to include expert court testimony. Compiles statistical data and ensures that total work product meets all appropriate scientific and legal requirements. Acts as section or division supervisor when required.  

LEAD CUSTODIAN

CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:

Under general direction, schedules and provides custodial services for the entire laboratory; ensures a clean and safe physical environment, and adheres to safety policies as outlined in appropriate local, state and federal guidelines.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, and in close coordination with the Deputy Director, Senior Administrative Assistant, and Forensic Scientists, provides a wide variety of diverse and complex office management & administrative support functions. Performs a wide variety of assigned administrative functions for law enforcement agencies throughout Marion County. This classification is distinguished by the increased scope, variety and complexity of work assignments. Compiles statistical data and ensures that total work product of administrative division meets all appropriate scientific and legal requirements.
