Mental Health Component
Offenders who have a serious mental illness as defined by the DSM IV Axis I criteria may be eligible for placement in Community Corrections programming if they also meet our regular screening criteria. For those individuals who qualify, they would at the time of sentencing, be placed in either the work release, day reporting, or home detention programs. While participating in these programs mental health offenders would be closely monitored to ensure participation in mental health treatment and taking their prescribed medication. Community Corrections works with the Marion County Mental Health Association to oversee the treatment plans of all offenders sentenced to this program. The goal of this program is to reduce the number of offenders sent to jail or prison with mental health issues. Offender fee is based on the program they are enrolled in.
