At the Polls
First time voters are often nervous when they enter the polling location for the first time. Here's what to expect:

You'll enter the polling location through the 'chute,' an area about 50 feet between clerk's table and the volunteers politicking on behalf of their favorite candidate.

You will then be greeted by a clerk, judge or inspector. They will ask for your name and look it up in the poll book, a list of all registered voters in the precinct.

If you're ID meets all four requirements, you will then sign the poll book acknowledging your participation in the election.

The clerks will then hand you a ballot and you'll be directed to a voting booth.

Take a moment to read the instructions at the top of the ballot and then simply color in the ovals next to the candidate you're supporting.

You'll then go to the voting machine and slip your ballot in to it.
That's it! Voting is really that simple. If you're unsure where to go on Election Day, click here to use the polling place locator. This is a great tool to learn where you vote on Election Day and to confirm your voter registration status. Simply type in your address and click search. Your precinct and polling place location will appear on the screen. To learn more about the various elected officials serving your precinct, click 'display districts.'
To verify your voter registration status, be sure to enter your birth date on the main search page. The screen displaying your polling place location and precinct information will also display a confirmation message at the top of the page if you are registered to vote in Marion County.
MARCH 11 SPECIAL ELECTION UDPATE:
The polling place locator has been updated with the new precinct information in time for the Special Election. The updated feature operates a little differently than described above. After you enter your address, the locator will let you know whether or not you reside in the 7th Congressional District. There is not a feature to verify your voter registration status. Call (317) 327-VOTE and select option 1 to speak with someone to confirm your registration status. The polling place locator will be fully operational after the March 11 Special Election.
Remember, polls open at 6 a.m. on Election Day and close at 6 p.m. If you are not able to participate on Election Day consider voting by absentee ballot because democracy is NOT a spectator sport!
