Councillor Jackie Nytes Celebrates International Education Week

Indianapolis - Councillor Jackie Nytes, a member of the Board of Directors for the International Center of Indianapolis, will introduce a resolution celebrating International Education Week and commending the Indianapolis Public School's Center for Inquiry for their International Baccalaureate Program.

Councillor Nytes said, "Indianapolis is home to an increasingly diverse population and is linked economically to the rest of the world through global firms.  International education emphasizes the importance of having skills and knowledge regarding the global society.  We are fortunate that the IPS Center for Inquiry offers their International Baccalaureate Program at both IPS School #2 and #84."

The IPS Center for Inquiry is Indiana’s only primary International Baccalaureate program.  The Primary Years Programme serves grades Full-day Kindergarten through sixth grade and focuses on the development of the whole child in the classroom and the world outside.  The Middle Years Programme serves grades seven through eight as an educational framework that requires students to study in eight subject areas: Language, Humanities, Mathematics, Sciences, Spanish, Physical Education, Arts, and Technology, and is characterized by three fundamental concepts of communication, holistic learning, and intercultural Awareness.

International Education Week was established in 2000 as a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education as a way to promote international understanding in schools and institutions, in the United States and abroad.

For more information regarding International Education Week, please contact Caterina Blitzer, Coordinator of International Education at the Indiana Department of Education at (317) 234-2375.
