Councillor Brown Joins Eastside Ministers in Today’s Vigil for Jamitra Mitchell

Indianapolis Councillor Vernon Brown joins Pastor Dr. Rayford A. Brown, Sr. and other Eastside ministers for a vigil that will be held Today at 5:00 pm at the Amber Woods Apartments, located at 10029 John Marshall Drive.  The vigil will honor Ms. Mitchell, raise money for funeral costs, and bring people together to help stop violence in the community.

Jamitra Mitchell, 22, was shot by a stray bullet a few hours after moving into an Amber Woods Apartment, that she thought was in a safer area than her old residence.  Ms. Mitchell was seven-months pregnant with her fourth child.  Her three children, ages 4,3, and 1, are staying with Ms. Mitchell’s mother, Lillie Vaughn.

The vigil to honor Ms. Mitchell will also bring the community’s residents, leaders, school officials, and business leaders together in an effort to re-claim the Eastside neighborhood.  Councillor Brown said, “After this tragedy, it is incumbent on all of us to help bring about a change for the better.  Every citizen must become involved in their neighborhoods.  It is our responsibility to protect our neighbors and our families”.
