President Gray Gives Full Support to Fire Department Merger
Indianapolis - Council President Monroe Gray pledged his full and complete support of the Washington Township Fire Department’s (WTFD) merger with the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD).
President Gray said, "As a veteran fireman, I know first hand the efficiencies that can be realized with a consolidated fire department. I will give my full support to the effort, and I am eager to work with my fellow Council members to ensure the merger is approved by the full Council."
Washington Township’s Board and Trustee are expected to approve the merger at their Thursday, June 15, 2006 meeting. If approved a proposal to merge the departments is expected to be introduced to the full Council at the Monday, June 19, 2006 meeting.
It is anticipated that the Rules and Public Policy Committee will take up the proposal at its meeting on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 5:30 in Room 260 of the City-County Building.
"I support the hard work of Firefighters Local 416, Mayor Bart Peterson and Washington Township Trustee Gwen Horth. They continue to put the needs of the citizens first as they pledged to do," said President Gray.
He said, "We have two top notch fire departments that will benefit from this consolidation, and I think the Council will support that vision."
President Gray is a 35 year veteran of the IFD.
