Councilman Gibson applauds the Mayor and IPS Superintendent
Indianapolis - Councilman Ron Gibson applauds Indianapolis Public Schools Superintendent Eugene White and Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson on creating three public educational programs that will operate under the Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP), in an effort to narrow the achievement gap in Indianapolis.
"This is a prime example of how traditional schools and charters can co-exist to enhance the quality of public education," said Councilman Gibson.
Indiana statute requires the Indianapolis City-County Council to ratify the Mayor’s approval of charter schools. To date, the Council has approved 18 charters for the Mayor with a majority vote by the legislative body.
Councilman Gibson also serves as director of the Indiana Charter Schools Advocacy, Inc., which is affiliated with the Indiana Public Charter Schools Association, Inc.
