Councilman Gibson requests update from Library
Indianapolis - Councilman Ron Gibson has requested the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library to give the Council’s Municipal Corporation Committee an update.
When: Monday, April 3, 2006
4:30 p.m.
Where: City-County Building, Room 260
200 E. Washington St.
Indianapolis, IN 46204
Councilman Gibson, who is the chairman of the Municipal Corporations Committee, said, "As the legislative branch of local government, it is not our job to micro-manage any agency; however, we want to get a better understanding of the issues surrounding the library to see if they have things under control." He said, "It will also give us an opportunity to offer solutions to challenges they may be facing."
He requested Linda Mielke and the Council’s two Library Board appointees, Louis Mahern and Sarah Taylor, to appear before the Committee. Their appearance before the Committee will allow Councillors to hear the thoughts on the Library, its current situation and future well being directly from the Council’s appointees.
Council President Monroe Gray said, "There is no question that libraries are important to the stability of communities, and it is important to complete the Central Library in the Spring of 2008, but the Council has to make sure tax dollars are spent properly and must continue challenging the Library to save money without cutting services."
