President Gray Names Committee Chairs
Indianapolis - Council President Monroe Gray named new chairs to several of the Council’s committees. The announcement was made after the Committee on Committees meeting that was held today. By code the Committee on Committees has only three members, the President of the Council who is also the chair, the majority leader and the minority leader.
President Gray’s new committee chair appointments are:
Indianapolis Marion County Law Enforcement Consolidation Committee- Majority Leader Lonnell Conley
Children’s and Family Services Special Investigative Committee - Vice President Joanne Sanders
Parks and Recreation Committee - Councillor Vernon Brown
President Gray said, "I am confident these individuals will serve well on their committees. Each is a proven leader and committed to doing what is in the best interest of our community."
President Gray did not make any changes to the remaining committee chairs. They are:
Administration and Finance - Vice President Joanne Sanders
Children’s Health and the Environment - Councillor Angela Mansfield
Community Affairs - Councillor Greg Bowes
Economic Development - Councillor Jackie Nytes
Metropolitan Development - Councillor Dane Mahern
Municipal Corporations - Councillor Ron Gibson
Public Safety and Criminal Justice - Councillor Mary Moriarty Adams
Public Works - Majority Leader Lonnell Conley
Rules and Public Policy - Councillor Rozelle Boyd
President Gray also appointed Councillors William Oliver and Scott Keller to the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Consolidation Transition Advisory Committee. Other Councillors that serve on the board by virtue of the Municipal Code are Vice President Joanne Sanders and Minority Leader Philip Borst.
"The Council’s representation on this advisory board is diverse enough to address all segments of our community. The members are respected and will do a great job making sure the new Metropolitan Law Enforcement Agency runs properly and reflects the community it serves," said President Gray.
