Councillor Abduallah Elected to Leadership Post at NLC Conference

Indianapolis - Councillor Patrice Abduallah was recently elected to the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials board (NBC - LEO) during the National League of Cities (NLC) Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. Councillor Abduallah will serve as the deputy director for Region 4 which includes, Indiana and Ohio.

According to the NBC- LEO, the organization was created in 1970 to represent the interests of African American elected officials. NBC-LEO's objectives include increasing African American participation on the NLC's steering and policy committees to ensure that policy and program recommendations reflect African American concerns and benefit their communities.

The organization also works independently with its members to inform them on issues affecting the African American community and helps to devise ways to achieve their community objectives through legislation and direct action. NBC-LEO conducts its annual meetings in conjunction with NLC's Congress of Cities and the Congressional City Conference. Councillor Abduallah is also being considered for the Community and Economic Development Steering Committee for NLC.

Councillor Abduallah said, "I am honored to serve as regional director for NBC - LEO to ensure that issues of all segments in our nation are adequately addressed at the federal, state and local level of government."

Councillor Abduallah is a lifelong Indianapolis resident and graduate of Washington High School, and Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI). He advocates for better neighborhoods and has established programs for youth education, the enrichment of the lives of the senior citizens, and economic development.

He was first elected to the Council in 2003 and currently serves on the Community Affairs, Economic Development and Public Works Committee of the Indianapolis City County Council.
