Council to Hold Community Hearings on Smokefree Air Act

INDIANAPOLIS – The Council's Children's Health and Environment Committee will hold four hearings around the community on Proposal No. 45, which, if passed, will require smokefree environments in public places and work places. The hearings will be held:

- Wednesday, March 30, 2005, 5 p.m.
    Pecar Health Center
    6940 N. Michigan Road

- Wednesday, April 6, 2005, 6 p. m.
    Warren Performing Arts Center
    9500 E. 16th Street

- Thursday, April 7, 2005, 6 p.m.
    Perry Township Government Center
    4925 S. Shelby Street

- Thursday, April 14, 2005, 6 p. m.
    Shortridge Middle School
    3401 N. Meridian Street

The purpose of holding four hearings throughout Marion County is to ensure that everyone has easy access to the meetings, including free parking, and to allow the community plenty of opportunities to give feedback.

The committee is expected to vote on the proposal at the Thursday, May 5, 2005 meeting. That meeting will take place in the City-County Building, 200 E. Washington St., at 6 p.m. The proposal is sponsored by President Steve Talley and Councillors Angela Mansfield, Greg Bowes, Scott Keller and Patrice Abduallah.
