Cherrish began her term on the Council in January, 2007. She currently serves on the Rules and Public Policy and Public Safety and Criminal Justice Committees.
Cherrish's district is on the northwest side of Marion County and covers part of Pike and Wayne Townships. Her interests are in crime prevention, economic development and public transportation. She is dedicated to ensuring that government services are accessible and responsive to taxpayers.
Cherrish served as the legislative and public affairs director for the City-County Council, managing media relations and serving as liaison on legislative matters with the State. Previously, she was a lobbyist for the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, a program director for the State Student Assistance Commission and a legislative assistant for the Indiana House of Representatives.
Cherrish is a member of the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church Board of Directors and the National Black MBA Association-Indianapolis Chapter. She also works on the UNCF Gala Committee, United Way of Central Indiana Governance Committee, Mayor's Celebration of Diversity Committee, and Indiana Black Expo's Black Business Conference Committee.
Cherrish holds a Bachelor's Degree from Indiana University-Bloomington in Criminal Justice and a Master's Degree in Public Affairs from IUPUI.
