MAP of District 12

Blake Johnson was elected to the Indianapolis City-County Council on November 3rd, 2015, in District 12 on the city’s Eastside.

Blake has spent the majority of his career advancing educational opportunities for children and families. In addition to his service on the Council, he currently serves as a director at Complete College America, a national nonprofit dedicated to increasing the number of Americans who are able to earn a college degree or career certificate. In addition to overseeing national media and communications strategy, Blake works with a portion of the organization’s 38 member states on implementation of public policies that seek to close the skills gaps and ensure many more students are able to finish college and move into rewarding careers.

Blake previously served as a senior advisor to Congressman André Carson in the United States House of Representatives. Previously, he taught in the Indianapolis Public Schools, working specifically with at-risk students who had been removed from traditional classrooms due to perpetual behavior issues.
Blake holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and communications from Eckerd College and a master’s degree in teaching from Marian University in Indianapolis.

He, his wife Natalie, and their two dogs live on the Eastside of Indianapolis.
