Heavy Trash
Unlike the photo above, be sure that your heavy trash items will not be a hazard to the public by placing all items on a stable surface and securing or removing loose parts such as doors or trim. For example, remove the doors to a refrigerator or secure them with tape to prevent children or pets from being trapped inside.
The most common allowable heavy trash items are: * Household furnishings such as couches, desks, tables, chairs, dressers. * Appliances that do not contain any Freon-gas refrigerant such as televisions, stoves, water heaters, water softeners. Freon-containing appliances require special handling. * Disassembled bicycles and swing sets. * Automobile/truck tires mounted on their rims/wheels. * Lawnmowers, as long as they have been drained of all gas and oil.

Items considered unacceptable for regular trash pickup are also unacceptable for heavy trash pickup. If legally unacceptable items are left for pickup, a DPW informational tag will notify you how to meet the pickup requirements in both English and Spanish.
Have more than two items of heavy trash to dispose of each month? Haul them to the Marion County Citizens' Transfer Station located at 2700 S. Belmont Ave., which is open nearly every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. |

The cost to drop-off a safely-loaded car-load is $2.00; the cost is $5.00 for a pickup truck load. All items must be within your one vehicle - trailer loads will not be accepted. Only acceptable regular or heavy trash items will be collected at the transfer station. Items like construction materials should be reused if possible or landfilled as a last resort.
Directions from I-70: Take Harding Street exit from I-70 and head south. At the intersection of Harding and Raymond, head west on Raymond. The entrance to the transfer station will be on your left and the collection point is just a bit south and west of the entrance. The transfer station is CLOSED on those Saturdays falling closest to Christmas Day (Dec. 25) and New Year's Day (Jan. 1).
