Leaf Collection - You Raked It, We Took It...
Once a year, the Indianapolis Department of Public Works collects fallen leaves throughout Marion County. In 2007, the department collected 13,524,060 pounds of leaves during the four-week annual program.
Because leaves can be recycled into a useful end product, DPW composts them and makes them available to the public free of charge. Compost can be used as a soil conditioner, potting soil or mulch. Using compost improves soil aeration, drainage and nutrient exchange – improving the health of lawns and helping gardens grow. Free compost is available while supplies last at Southside Landfill, 2577 S. Kentucky Ave.
