MAJOR STREET CLOSINGS FOR “PROJECT OPEN MARKET”
INDIANAPOLIS – Some of the most significant road closures associated with Project Open Market are about to go into effect. Beginning on or around Thursday, June 26, 2008:
• Southeastern Avenue will close to through traffic between Shelby Street and Washington Street. • Shelby Street will close to through traffic at Southeastern Avenue. • Daly Street will close to through traffic from Pine Street to Shelby Street.
These closures will be effective 24 hours a day for approximately three months and will prevent any access to Washington Street in this area. During this time, sanitary and storm sewer construction work will be performed on Southeastern Avenue, Shelby Street and Daly Street. In addition, the intersection of Southeastern Avenue and Washington Street will be reconstructed, just east of its existing location. When construction is complete, Daly Street will be a dead end street.
Sanitary and storm sewer construction work will also take place along Washington Street during this time, forcing a shift in traffic to the northernmost lanes, with two lanes in each direction. These lane restrictions will be in effect from just west of College Avenue to just east of Cruse Street. DETOUR ROUTES

PROJECT OPEN MARKET
Project Open Market is a city initiative to spur investment and create economic opportunity on the Near-Eastside by removing the Market Street I-65/70 interstate ramp and building a new interchange along East Washington Street. The project, financed mostly through federal grant dollars, will open up Market Street for new business opportunities and create a more pedestrian-friendly corridor that will better connect the Near-Eastside to downtown Indianapolis.
