Summer Recycling Extravaganza this weekend

INDIANAPOLIS – Recycle Indianapolis is making recycling even easier this weekend by hosting the Summer Recycling Extravaganza at locations throughout Marion County.

The Summer Recycling Extravaganza will be held on Saturday, August 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at four Indy Parks locations:

·         Broad Ripple Park, 1550 Broad Ripple Ave.

·         Riverside Park, 2420 E. Riverside Dr.

·         Garfield Park, 2450 S. Shelby St.

·         Christian Park, 4200 E. English Ave.

At these four locations, Marion County residents can drop off old tires, cardboard, toner/laser/ink jet printer cartridges as well as used electronics like computers, televisions and cell phones. At the Garfield Park location, kids will be able to participate in the Summer Recycling Games, too.

Also, this Saturday only, all three ToxDrop locations will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., accepting household hazardous waste like paint thinner, compact fluorescent bulbs and used motor oil:

·         Trader’s Point, 7550 N. Lafayette Rd.

·         Perry Township Government Center, 4925 Shelby St.

·         IMPD Training Facility, 9049 E. 10th St.

Don’t forget! The city also has 29 convenient drop-off locations for residents to recycle aluminum, steel and tin cans, #1 and #2 plastics, glass, newspapers and magazines.

Sponsors for the Summer Recycling Extravaganza include the Indianapolis Department of Public Works, Indy Parks, Indianapolis Animal Care and Control, Marion County Health Department and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc.

Recycle Indianapolis is an initiative designed to broaden recycling participation in Indianapolis through increased awareness and education by promoting ease of use, waste reduction and environmental responsibility through personal neighborhood and city-wide opportunities.
