Mayor Peterson to present Access and Inclusion Awards on Monday
INDIANAPOLIS – To celebrate the 17th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Mayor Peterson and the Mayor’s Advisory Council on Disability (MACD) are hosting the annual Access and Inclusion Awards.
Held on Monday, July 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Circle Centre Mall ArtsGarden, this event recognizes those businesses, organizations and individuals who make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities through a commitment to inclusion and accessibility. In addition, the Access and Inclusion Awards raise awareness about the needs and abilities of residents with disabilities.
In honor of this civil rights act, awards are given in three categories: James Pauley Lifetime Service Award, Accessibility Award and Employer Award. The awards ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m; exhibits will be open at 11 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.
The Mayor’s Advisory Council on Disability was created to promote the inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities within the Indianapolis community and to advise the mayor and the city administration on issues that impact people with disabilities. The 2007 vision statement for the MACD is “Opening doors to persons with disabilities through education.”
