DPW continues to demonstrate commitment to public interest
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Department of Public Works recently was awarded the prestigious Indiana Qualifications Based Selection Award (QBS) for the Raw Sewage Overflow Long Term Control Plan.
The Indiana QBS Award has been established to recognize and honor entities that have contributed to and used qualifications based selection to retain professional services. The process promotes improved project quality by assuring that both the client and the professional service provider clearly understand the scope of work required to meet the need.
“Selections based on qualifications and competence, rather than price, foster greater creativity and flexibility,” said DPW director Kumar Menon. “Our commitment is to serve public interest in the best manner possible. We feel QBS allows us to do that.”
The Raw Sewage Overflow Long Term Control Plan is the mayor’s 20-year, $1.8 billion plan to improve our water quality by eliminating septic tanks, upgrading sanitary sewers, and improving flood control and drainage.
“We are proud of the recognition that DPW continues to receive for innovative programs such as The Long Term Control Plan as it demonstrates our commitment to the needs of the community,” added Menon.
In addition to the QBS award, DPW’s Engineering division has received other accolades this year. Three projects were recognized as some of the best in Indiana at the 19th annual Engineer Excellence Awards ceremony sponsored by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Indiana. The Maple Road Parkway as well as the Sludge Cake Pump and Piping Replacement Project received an Honor Award, the second highest honor bestowed. The Long Term Control Plan and Wet Weather Program Management earned the Merit Award.
DPW also recently accepted an award for the top civil engineering project in the state of Indiana. Selected by the Indiana Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Pogues Run Tunneling Project was named the 2007 Indiana Civil Engineering Project of the Year at the group’s annual meeting luncheon.
