First 1,000 kids through the center field gate to earn chance to win a free bike
INDIANAPOLIS — The city of Indianapolis kicks off its 12th annual Knozone season at the 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, Indianapolis Indians game against the Syracuse Chiefs.
Dr. Kno will throw out the first pitch and Knozone team members will pass out raffle tickets to the first 1,000 fans ages 5 to 18 entering the stadium for a chance to win a bike and helmet during the seventh-inning stretch. The bikes and helmets are sponsored by Meijer on Southport Road. The team also will distribute prizes to adults entering Victory Field through the center field gate.
Knozone is a voluntary air pollution reduction program for Indianapolis-Marion County. Now in its 12th year, the program educates the public about the effects of ground-level ozone (smog) and fine particles (soot) on public health and the environment. About air quality in central Indiana: Thanks to the cooperation of area businesses and residents, air quality in central Indiana has been improving for many years. Federal air quality standards have become stricter in recent years, so there is more work to do. Reducing vehicle idling, filling gas tanks and mowing after 6 p.m., riding IndyGo and carpooling are great ways to make a difference in air quality.
